Excessive Sweating

What is excessive sweating?

It’s completely normal to sweat if you get hot or do exercise, but you may be sweating excessively if you’re sweating when your body doesn’t need to cool down.

Excessive sweating can happen for no obvious reason, because of a condition you may have or potentially as a side effect of medication you’re taking.

It is a condition that affects as many as three per cent of people, men and women, and can be embarrassing and have a serious impact not just on self-confidence but on day to day life.

You may find you are unable to wear certain materials due to sweat patches showing, or you are needing to take a change of clothing  to work each day to combat this problem.

Excessive sweating is caused by an over-activity in the sweat glands. These glands are triggered by the body’s normal response for regulating temperature – in a warm environment or after exercise, for example.

However, other factors may also be triggers, such as anxiety, physical or emotional stress, alcohol and hot or spicy food.

If excessive sweating is affecting your life and your confidence, please talk to Joanna at S18 Face Clinic.

We can offer you a simple, effective treatment for excessive sweating, to help keep the condition under control.

The Treatment

The treatment we offer for excessive sweating is using injections of Botulinum Toxin Type A (commonly known as Botox – also used in wrinkle-relaxing treatments).

Botox™ has been used to treat excessive sweating for many years. The injections temporarily inhibit the over-active sweat glands. This helps to stop the sweating completely, in some cases, or at the very least significantly reduce it.

As with other injection treatments it may feel a little uncomfortable, but most of our clients find it relatively pain-free. We will explain the procedure to you in more detail, during your consultation for the treatment.

To maintain the results, we recommend you have the treatment once every 4 to 6 months.
